The Norwegian Forest Cat
Charakter of the Norwegian Forest Cat
The
Norwegian Forest Cat is one of most original breeds we know of. In their
native country, those cats still roam freely in the forests. Controlled
breeding only started in the 1970ies. In order to keep this breed as close
to the “original” as possible, breeding plans keep introducing cats (often
semi-wild, with typical attributes) to the known lines. One of the typical
features of this breed is its distinct hunting instinct.
Sharing
your home with such a wonderful creature, you’ll soon be confronted with its
fabulous ability to jump – you might want to consider this with regard to
the furniture of your house. The Norwegian Forest Cat has very strong claws;
therefore a scratching post needs to be solid.
The
before mentioned hunting instinct, however, does not imply that the
Norwegian Forest cat is a stray cat at all – quite on the contrary: being
kept in the house is not a problem at all. Ideally, you provide an
escape-proof balcony or terrace as these cats love to catch some fresh air
every once in a while.
This cat
is neither intrusive nor talkative or loud. It likes to be around you and
loves being cuddled. The Norwegian Forest Cat is very tolerant and outgoing,
it loves company – be it other cats or a dog. Needless to say that this cat
is ideal for a family with kids.
